What to know before you choose
How is it different?
Standard cameras switch to infrared at night, giving black-and-white images. Colour cameras use a brighter F1.0 lens plus soft white or warm light to keep images in colour all night.
Why does colour matter?
Car colour, clothing colour and facial detail matter when you review footage after an incident — black-and-white images lose them.
Will the light bother neighbours?
The light is soft, and many models only switch it on when motion is detected (smart light) or can run in standard infrared mode.
